  1. Jalissa:

i personally think that it doen’t really have that big of a effect on teenagers. they have their own mind and ways of seeing and hearing and thinking things. if thats something that they chose to do then thats the choice that they make in there head.

  2. Joshua:

I myself would have to say that it does influence teen behavior. The question is do you remeber the 70’s through now? If you do then you will realize that even people were influenced by music back then too. Whether it be drug abuse or sex or even violence music does inlfuence people. But even though it does influence you, you have a choice to do what its influencing you to do.

  3. guest:

I think the lyrics do have an effect on young teens mind. Because it putts the idea in their heads. Now it is our dession whether we do it or not but it does have an effect on us. I am doing a prodject on media influence on teens and in a resent research they did 9 out of 10 teens say they look at the music and music videos and get ideas on how to dance and also sexual information. But the down side is they see the sex part but not the concequenses.

  4. LaLa:

I think that music does have an influence on people. Some influences are good & some are bad. Music influences the way people talk, act, and dress. Yeah, people do choose how they want to act or dress. But they also choose to be influenced by the music. Different genres of music have different influences. I see boys wearing shirts hanging down to their knees and shorts down to their ankles, just as they do in rap & hip-hop videos. And girls wear skin-tight clothes, showing a ton of skin. Dirty, explicit music gets into young minds & makes them think about having sex or doing drugs. It affects how people talk. People walk around calling eacho other n***a. Calling gilrs bi***es & h**s. Jalissa said that they have their own minds and they can make their own choices, and like I said before, some of them choose to be influenced by music.

  5. JJ:

I personally think that music lyrics have somewhat of an effect on young teens but only if they let it. This is mainly directed towards young teen girls, if they actually pay close attention to what the singer is saying; in regards to the “ideal” body image, they start to become very self-conscious and that’s when eating disorders and image conflicts start. Music doesn’t seem to have quite as much of an effect on teens as movies, billboards, and magazines do, but it still plays a small part.

  6. KS:

All the research proves it does influence teens, and younger and younger children. Savvy marketing, combined with consumerism, has led to a serious problem. People are bombarded with thousands of ads per day, and anything you see that much has an impact.

Educate your kids about what advertising is trying to get them to do - whant to be like their idealized life and be willing to buy something (jeans, perfume, music) to achieve it.

  7. paige simmerville:

    it does influence teens

  8. DANTEE:

    I TAKE BOTH SIDES
I THINK THAT MUSIC DOES IN FLUENCE KIDS BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT DOESNT

  9. Matt:

I think that the person has complete control over their behavior and music has no effect on it. It only is another form of expression.

  10. Josh:

I think that the lyrics in the music we listen to has a big impact on the way we think and act. For example if you listen to enough music that say things like \” that f***ing b***h ruined my like, now she must die\” you eventually will start to believe it and it\’ll start to make sense to you.

i think that it does not affect the way teens act they are responsible for thier actions not the music they listen to

  12. G-D:

Welll to my observation you dont see people who dress like they should be in a rap hip hop video listenin to Old school Shania Twain.. and you dont see them Cowboys in the rodeo listenin to music sayg FXXX this… shoot my girl… blahb blah the way people dress and act is mainly based upon there music.. like the \”goths\” in high school…. they listenin to like the music were you cant understand what they are saying its just screaming. Well that is my Opinon

  14. jimmy:

I do believe that music does and does not influence teens. First I believe a teen may choose his/her music by their surroundings, and what relates to what they are into or what they believe in. For example a person who is into drugs and violence may choose music that he can relate to. Opposing this, some teens do feel lost and try to find ways to find themselves. They see and hear musicians and believe that they are stable or cool people who they would like to turn out to be, so they follow these peoples style and words. In the end music can influence people or it may not influence people, it just depends on what way you relate to it.

  15. Marissa:

I feel that lyrics and music videos affect teens behavior. After watching the girls in the background of fifty Cents’ new viedo, girls want to be sexy and noticed by boys, in the same way [some not realizing that it is not the best way]. People listen to songs & artisists not knowing what they are talking about or even represent in their songs. Look at how girls admire pornstars [like Jenna Jameson] or Playmates, it’s very similiar.

I do believe that music influences a teens behaviors, whether it be about drugs, violence, sex, or alcolhol. Music only tells them “cool” stuff about it, but never explains the consequences of it or there actions.

  18. Kaley:

I definitly think music has an impact on teens and anyone for that matter. Don’t believe me? Well when you feel sad what kind of music do you listen too? Sad….When your at a dance and you want to grid all over some guy, you dont want some contry love song…you want some “sexy” music. Still not convinced? Well think about the music you listen to, when do you listn to it? Why do you listen to it…. Think back to the movie “Mean girls” Remember when Regeana came home to her little sister watching MTV? The girls on that TV were grinding on some guy, and what was the little sister doing? She was doing the same thing to air!! Back to why you listen to it, I have heard to old excuse “I like the beat” so many times my head could explode. Yeah well think about this while you are listening to that “beat” you love so much, think about all the garbage of lyrics flowing into your head.

  19. brittany:

i think music has a huge impact on the way kids behave and how they start doing bad thing like having sex or doing drugs

  20. Aylertay:

I think it can. It all depends on the person and their mood

  21. anonymous:

I don’t think what people listen to has an influence on their behaviour and thoughts. I think someone’s behaviour and thoughts influence what they listen to. Music mabye tells people to do things; SO WHAT! u could just say something to someone or u could sing it but I don’t thing that would really make a difference.

  22. mariah:

i personaly dont think it influences most ppl…i will admitt u do have some ppl that it does influence but i am 23 years old and i have always listen to some kind of rap or hip-hop and i am a good christian and have never rele been influenced by it…the ppl that are influenced by it, are the ppl that want to fit in and if thats what everyone is doing “on t.v or the radio” , then there gon do it.
    thanx

  23. Mooki:

i think that music is music and teens is going to do what they want with or without the music. ill holla!

  24. Mrs. Jones:

I do think that the media can influence people (especially teens.)i feel that gertain music should not be allowed because they have such negative and degrading outlooks on women and how they should be treated, drugs, violence etc. i strongly feel that it is up to the people who listen to the music. Its thier choice whether or not they want to be influenced.

  25. precious:

I think that music does not affect use teens. We will do what we wont with our with out any type of music if it be sexual or violence. Many think that if we see or hear sexual or violent things that we will start to think that’s the right way to behave. if there are teens out there like that they have a weak mind and does not know the right way to go but that’s not the music fault its there parents and themselves.we need to start taking the blame for our actions and not put it on music or television.

  26. MommyQ:

Nobody’s opinion is relevant here. This study is clear and thoroughly proves that music does in fact influence behavior…Not just if you let it. Always. If you listen, it will get into your head, and it will change the way you think, and then the way you behave. Why do you think advertisers pay big bucks for their chance to influence behavior with their 30 second commercial spots?
