MENLO PARK, August 28, 2006 (PodTech News) — With the 2006 NFL season set to kickoff September 7, fantasy football geeks are doing their research, hoping to draft the perfect fantasy team and lead their virtual team to victory. PodTech’s Rio Pesino spoke with Fantasy Sports Trade Association President Jeff Thomas about the current state of fantasy sports and his top fantasy football picks for this year.
Reporter’s Notes: I’ll be the first to admit, I am addicted to fantasy football. I can’t get enough of it. Being a San Francisco 49ers fan, I need something to pique my interest in the NFL once my 49ers get mathematically eliminated from the playoffs by the fourth week of the season. Fantasy football does just that. The game has also benefited the NFL, giving the league more exposure, advertisers more revenue and fans something to do at work
Speaking of work, employers may be the big losers in fantasy football. A recent report by Challenger, Gray and Christmas Inc. found that fantasy football will cost employers as much as $1.1 billion a week in lost productivity. Is it really that bad? I wonder if a similar survey was done on MySpace.com?
Need help with your fantasy football draft? Founder and CEO of online fantasy website NBX.com, Toby Corey, gave his advice on which players to pick in this podcast.
