LOS ANGELES, September 27, 2006 (PodTech News) — Control Room, formerly Network Live and MSN, Microsoft’s web portal, yesterday announced a multi-year content agreement to distribute live concert performances online. The deal gives Control Room, producer of last year’s Live 8, several global distribution platforms, including the nearly 465 million monthly MSN visitors, plus eventually users of Xbox Live, MSN Messenger, Windows Media and others. For Microsoft, the alignment represents a further attempt to drive both consumer and advertiser growth on its sites by offering a range of new entertainment and media features. Control Room CEO Kevin Wall spoke with PodTech’s Matt Kelly about the announcment.
Reporter’s Notes: MSN seems to be pretty serious about dominating the social media scene with its recent unveiling of its digital video sharing site Soapbox and its backing of Wallop, a new social networking site, ala MySpace. This alignment with Control Room will provide more content to grow their user base, which they’ll eventually monetize through advertising. -Matt Kelly
