Heidi Roizen on Raising Venture Capital

Heidi Roizen is a Silicon Valley veteran who spent her time building companies during the software and PC boom. PodTech Founder and CEO John Furrier spoke with her about how and when to raise venture capital funding. She says that what it takes to be an entrepreneur hasn’t changed over the years, even if some of the funding trends have. One interesting note: during the dot com boom Heidi was pitched by Courtney Love. She passed on the investment. Also, this conversation includes venture prospects for bloggers. (Her advice: A standalone blogger doesn’t need to raise money. But If your goal is to be big, then raise money.)

Aw, Come on. Heidi Roizen? She’s famous for being Heidi Roizen, nothing more. Name one successful company she invested in. The wildly successful AuctionDrop? Besides building a $15M clip art software company (T/Maker) 20 years ago, what makes her relevant? Is it the fact that Mobius blew up and none of the people who had decent track records invited her to join their new gigs?

Gosh, I KNEW I shouldn’t have left Silicon Valley! So, would Heidi be my old high school’s most famous graduate?

No, actually that would probably be Carlos Santana.
And actually, I’m glad I did leave SV (for Oregon) a dozen years ago. Just wish it hadn’t taken so long to figure that out. But that’s life! You guys making any money down there… or enjoying OPM?
