Netflix meets Fedex is how Raghav Kher describes his online movie rental company Seventymm, which he founded in Bangalore in 2005. This is Raghav’s fourth company, and it has recently received a second round of investment of $10 million from Matrix Partners India.
In this interview Raghav discusses why he started an online movie rental company in India. (Hint: The Indian film industry makes the most number of films in the world.)
Raghav also discusses the challenges of running a start-up in India. He points out that he spends fifty percent of his time trying to recruit the right kind of people to work for his company.
Raghav divides his time between Bangalore and Seattle. His previous company, Rendition Networks, was acquired by Opsware. Raghav spent more than eight years working for Microsoft, and was part of the team that worked on the acquisition of Hotmail.

Interesting interview. I came across www.clixflix.com in 2004. They offer all that seventymm does and more. They offer ALL ACCESS a medium through which you can order films online, over the phone, sms and through physical Brick and Mortar stores. Perhaps a more rounded approach and a more needed one in this fragmented and nascent market. I guess Raghav has got it wrong when he says Seventymm is the first.
