Popular in Eurpope and Asia, the Smart Car is finally coming to America. Unfortunately, not until 2008. This cute, two-seater is affordably priced, starting at under $13k, so it benefits our wallets, and the planet, with the company’s exploration of an alternative fuel propulsion platform. “Superbly Manufactured And Reliable Transportation” = SMART. While at the North American International Auto Show, I had the opportunity to check it out for myself.

I’m as excited about this car as anybody, but I found this video a little annoying. The interviewer was effusive to the point of being flamboyant. Too. much. energy.

I own 2 smart fortwo Both Passion 1 fortwo cabrio 1 fortwo coupé. I love them. I have a Service Manual ready to publish alone wit operating Manual that covers anything you ever wanted to know about a smart. This is a very easy car to modify to your ever dream. If you are interested in the smart you really need to get a copy on my manual and start dreaming on how to make your smart do things your way.

Though I completely share your excitement for this car, I disagree with your comment about the interviewer. If I wanted a piece of steel to introduce me to the car, perhaps the car should just talk to me itself (Ah, I think the whole “Knight Rider” theme was a tv concept that I didn’t enjoy) I felt that the interviewer brought the car to the people and asked questions that impressed both me and interviewee. Personally, I look forward to seeing future interviews.

I live in the DC area. On my last fill-up I was a little over 60 MPG. On the open road I might be doing better than that. I will be posting my smart book information on my sites soon as I am receiving lots of email ordering my book from garages that want to work on the smart when it gets to the USA in Mass. My sites are www.dgraves.net and www.karaokekafe.net Keep checking there for smart info. You can also contact me at dan_e_graves@hotmail.com

[…] I posted an interview on the smartcar and got a great response from Dan Graves, owner of not one, but two smartcars in Washington, DC. Dan paid a little more than the price for the smart being asked in 2008, which will be under $13k. He paid in the high 20’s for both because they had to be Americanized with with safety glass, seal beams and airbags. The 2008 however, should have all this. Dan is so into smarts that he went ahead and created his own operating manual and instructions for the car and now he gets emails eveyday from service shops wanting to purchase his manual on CD. How cool is that? Bookmarks:These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. […]

My brother-in-law had one of these Smart cars in London for 2 years when he ran an internet company. It was printed in the company logo and looked modern, different and interesting – but insubstantial.
I drove it and it was nippy, responsive and fun. Before that, 6 years ago in the course of my ongoing research I’d spoken to a battery firm in the UK who were equipping Smarts with (100C running temperature) batteries as a research project.
My brother in law now owns a successful property firm, and drives a Jaguar and a BMW and both complement his 50 years of “experience” far better.

Thanks for the contribution Michael. I agree, they are a car that fits a certain lifestyle, and perhaps not others. Me being a single guy and reporting in field of alternative fueled vehicles, I think it would work for me, especially living in LA!

The Smart ForTwo should be listed as a legal Drug. It is adictive, Habit forming, gets under your skin and you fall in love with it even when you are married. The more I do to my smarts the more I like them. I wrote a Smart ForTwo Maintenance & Service Manual and published it on CD for easy use. I am a smart car ForTwo fanatic.
I wanted a ball cap with one of my smart car ForTwo as a Logo. I took many Pictures of my smart car ForTwo. I went to a shop that does Embroidery work. Screen painting was not good enough for my smart Logo.
I had a sample Embroidery Logo made from my pictures.
I took the sample of my smart ForTwo to the Library of Congress
Copyright Office in Washington DC and had my Logo copyrighted.
From there I had Caps, T-Shirts, and Jackets made for myself and my wife.
You can see my Embroidery logo at www.dgraves.net.
I am now offering you caps and T-Shirts with my smart car logo to match your smart Car..
I used Port & Company Sandwich Bill Cap in the color of Stone for my Ball Caps which is the best quality I could find.
My T-Shirts are Port Authority Pique Knit Sport Shirt with Pocket which I like to match my caps.
You can see a news Movie with my smart cars at
http://www.myfoxdc.com/myfox/pages/ContentDetail?contentId=2986545
If you are looking for a smart car cap and/or T-Shirt please let me know what colors you are looking for I will see what I can do for you. My caps and T-Shirts can be any color and my smart Car logo can be in any color to match your smart car.
Just be proud of your smart car by wearing your Smart car for others to see.
When you get to be a smart car ForTwo fanatic you will understand what I am going through.
By the way my classic 74 Corvette is for sale at www.dgraves.net which lets you know that I have totally flipped over the smart Fortwo.

I will enjoy looking down on it in my Hummer. And I hope they sell a lot of them it will make it so much safer for real people with real cars. And, we will survive crashes and they won’t!
