Ever since I was little, my family has been composting. I remember bugging my mom to get a compost bin when I was 10 so we didn’t have to throw food in the trash, though I’m sure she’d remember it the other way around! Composting has been around since the dawn of time — it’s simple, put the food back where it came from — the dirt! Throwing food in the trash creates unnecessary garbage, so why do it? Why not let nature take it’s course and break it all down into nutrient rich soil? Mmmm…nutrients!
For more info on Composting, check out: Wikipedia: Compost and for info and supplies: The Compost Bin. Thanks Mom!

Very interesting. So what could someone who has a small yard do that won’t smell and annoy the neighborhoods?

That was great. We have been composting for about 10 years now on the North Fork of Long Island Wine Country.
Watch out for racoons.

Our local farm store called Rural King sells clean 55 gallon drums and I put holes in the bottom for drainage so that I could compost in it. I put holes in the bottom and around the sides at different heights for air circulation.
Compost when its done can be used on the garden. Composting uses every component of vegetables you buy. Even if you don’t use the compost itself you can give it away to someone who gardens.
