All set for the Academy Awards tonight and I get this Gmail package from an anonymous Hollywood friend. Seems some folks like Harrison Ford and Sandra Bullock thought it was about time to thank all the little people for all the real work that gets done making movies. But you won’t see it tonight on the Oscars–the tribute was rejected at the last minute by the show producers.

The only reason I can possibly fathom is because Ellen Degeneres was the hostess, and one quick scene appeared with a RIGHT HAND with a glove on it….never mind the many right hands which appeared WITHOUT gloves on them….seemed a real loss, to me……and not just of perspective…..It figures, that Sandra Bullock and Harrison Ford - two of the least egotistical stars of Hollywood fame - would have their “salute to the little people” left in shreds on the cutting room floor, so to speak. A callous, petulant decision, in my opinion…and not just because they weren’t running horribly overtime. Go figure. Ellen even used a vaccuum, to lighten both the tone and the self-importance awards shows can often become, without appropriate levity: the salute would have “fit right in”…..ahem.
