Rich Mogull is a research vice president specializing in security and privacy at Gartner, the best known analyst group in the IT and security industries. I caught up with him for a few minutes at RSA 2007 in February to discuss the event, the insider threat and the future of the security industry.

If only the world were as simple as Rich Mogull thinks it is.

Is he kidding me? Insider security and perimeter security are two vastly different things… inter-related, yes, but stopping data leakage or theft from a motivated and trusted insider is much more complicated than stopping external breaches and require vastly different approaches.

I’m disappointed that somebody in his position doesn’t see this. He should read the two books I wrote on the insider threat and then think twice about treating external threats the same way.
