SUNNYVALE, CA, December 14, 2005 (PodTech News): Today Yahoo! launched “My Subscriptions,” a new Yahoo! Podcasts feature that helps people keep track of all their podcast subscriptions in one online location at http://podcasts.yahoo.com/my.
If a consumer listens to podcasts directly from their web browser, they can now easily keep track of new episodes without having to download any software to manage their podcast subscriptions. They can also subscribe to an RSS feed of this page to view an up-to-date list of new episodes from all of their own favorite podcasts right on their My Yahoo! page or other RSS reader. This makes it easier for users to consume and subscribe to podcasts. Yahoo recognized with the launch that having a flash player makes listening on the site easier, but subscribing was awkward compared to iTunes. So Yahoo! in essence make the web browser the podcasting client unlike iTunes which has a separate iTunes client software.
In addition, if a consumer subscribes to podcasts within their music software (such as the Yahoo! Music Engine or iTunes), they can now easily re-subscribe or manage their subscriptions on more than one computer (at home and at work) with just a few clicks from their My Subscriptions page on Yahoo! Podcasts.
Good to see Yahoo innovating and making the podcasting experience simplier. Niall Kennedy has some interesting points on this.
