Perhaps the first true muscle car was the GTO. Made by Pontiac between 1964 and 1974, it was just one brainchild of Pontiac’s chief engineer at the time, John DeLorean. During my tour of the GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, Mich., HC manager Greg Wallace introduced me to the original 1964 model GTO and “The Judge,” the 1969 model GTO, whose name came from a comedy routine, “Here Comes the Judge”, on the “Laugh-In” TV show.
