Have you ever been speeding along on a highway only to come upon someone going the speed limit or under? It may be a hypermiler. Hypermiling is a term coined by Wayne Gerdes of CleanMPG.com, a Website dedicated to the hypermiler enthusiasts, a group of dedicated hybrid owers and other vehicles as well, intent on squeezing as much miles per gallon out of their cars as possible by modifying their driving habits and sometimes even their vehicles. On today’s show we learn more about hypermiling and meet three hypermilers, Chuck Thomas, a computer programmer near Dallas, Texas, Brian Morris, a non-hybrid hypermiler from Reno, Nev., and Eric Powers from Madison, Wisc. Eric is also president of Hybridfest, an event Next Gear will attend and report from.
