Vectrix USA unveiled their zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) in San Francisco at the Presidio last week. I had the opportunity to ride it with Jeff Morrill, Vectrix marketing director, and it was a lot of fun! (I want one!) At $11k, I’ll have to wait, although the State of California (where I live) is apparently very close to granting a $2000 rebate after purchase of the Vectrix, and that’s enough to make a difference for lots of people. If this machine gains wide acceptance, could it become the Prius of motorcycles? During taping, I couldn’t help but notice how quiet this bike is, especially after several loud scooters and motorbikes rode by!

[…] ABG friend and NextGear host Matt Kelly headed up to San Francisco to check out the west coast launch of the Vectrix electric motorcycle. Marketing Director for Vectrix gives all the details on the nickel metal hydride powered two wheeler. The battery is expected to have a ten year lifespan and the bike gets a two year warranty. The bike isn’t cheap at $11,000 but it doesn’t use any gas, is clean and quiet and has a 40-60 mile range depending on your riding style. The video is after the break. […]

[…] Podtech has a video interview with the chaps behind the Vectrix electric scooter, which is launching in the US. The presenter and guest take a bit of getting used to, but it’s pretty cool nonetheless. What’s amazing is the complete silence when it’s idling (especially when another scooter drives past in the background). And, of course, zero emissions. […]

ITS HARD TO FIND YOUR WEB SITE WHEN I CAN’T SPELL VECTRIX.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE NMHD BATTERY THAT DRIVES THE 48 VOLT MOTOR.

Last year a number of questions were asked on the offical UK Vectrix web site forum about the battery and the claims of 10 years life and cost of replacement, the offical reply was to shutdowm the forum.
The replacement battery cost is approx ~1/3 the cost of the bike.
Given the range drops if you travel at the higher road normal speed most would have to recharge everyday, at these rates you would be very lucky if the battery lasted 4-5 years.
If you are very green and quite rich you might buy one, for most of us it would be far cheaper to by a 4 stroke scooter and keep it in fuel for 4 years than buy a vectrix.

Give me an old cool bicycle, and I’ll ride around the city for days.

Why confuse everyone by calling this motor scooter
a motorcycle?. It certainly does not look or ride like a
motorcycle, nor does it have an engine with cylinders. It has a very short range and can’t ride at freeway speeds or on a freeway for very long without a recharge.
