Venture Capital InfoTalk™ with Dave Hornik, General Partner August Capital
Host: John Furrier, Founder PodTech.net
David and I talk about ventureblog, next generation web, venture capital, social networking, and advice for entrepreneurs.
We had such a good time there are 3 segments. David’s a great guy. What I like about David is that he’s humble and smooth- in my book humble means smart.
Some sound bites from my conversation with David
New type of consumption a shift – from a consumption perspective it’s about the real power of the internet and now it’s coming to fruition. In the 90s sites were slow, took a long time to build, hard to change - what happening now is that there is a new infrastructure that allows people to create content incredibly quickly, to share it incredibly quickly, to share it in small groups or share it broadly. Microcasting and one to many, simple tools that are cheap and easy ..whole lot more content good content rises from bottom to top more meritcartic way then in the past..
In the old days a technology tax took place – a venture would raise 10 million – give a million to oracle, a million to sun, a million to weblogic then 7 million would be left over to build the business. Today it’s $1200 on a server with nothing spent on everything else and the rest can be spent on everything else - people are understanding scalability better now…
New Profile Entrepreneurs: Entrepreneurs are still the visionaries – I just write a check. The cost structures have changed … and bottom up approach is working and it is less expensive…. Investment model hasn’t changed – still invest in great entrepreneurs
