“In astronomy it turns out that amateur astronomers are finding comets and asteroids before NASA and all the science labs can because the data is being sent out to the community and they can search and look in a distributed way much much faster than the labs can on their own because they have limited manpower,” Mohanbir Sawhney said. “The SETI project is another example, the search for extra terrestrial intelligence–I have a hard enough time finding intelligence here with politicians and so on.”
