MENLO PARK, July 11, 2006 (PodTech News) — PodTech News reported yesterday on Freescale Semiconductor’s announcement that it’s shipping a new memory chip, the MRAM, or “magnetoresistive random access memory device.” This is being called a significant breakthrough in memory-chip technology. PodTech’s Catherine Girardeau interviewed industry analyst Richard Gordon, Research VP at Gartner, Inc., to find out what Freescale’s announcement means for the semiconductor industry. “From a market point of view, it faces a long road ahead, with respect to the $50 billion worldwide market for memory chips,” Gordon said of the MRAM chip.
