Women Bloggers Shouldn't Blog Incognito, Conference Co-Founder Says

SAN JOSE, July 31, 2006 (PodTech News) – More than 700 people attended BlogHer 2006, the second annual conference of women bloggers, held this past weekend in San Jose. According to a recent study published by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, 46% of the 12 million Americans who write blogs are women. PodTech’s Catherine Girardeau interviewed Elise Camahort, co-founder of the web community and of the BlogHer conference. “I wish that everyone who was a gray-haired old lady and knew technology was out there saying who they were, because the more times you read that, the less you’d be able to make the assumption that smart, technical content is about being a man, or being young, or being white,” said Camahort.

I would just like to clarify that, if you listen to the podcast, you’ll note that my reference to being a “gray haired old lady” is actually a direct quote from someone who describes herself that way and thinks it’s great to write about technology on the Internet, because people respect her opinions more because they can’t see who she really is.
You know, just so you don’t think I go around calling people “gray haired old ladies” as a matter of course!
