In this segment from the IBM Software Group Connection Summit 2007, James talks with Jerrilyn Glanville, a veteran of IBM Analyst Relations (”AR” for short). The discuss the role of AR, both on the side of the analyst and executives, some examples of different styles and idiosyncrasies of both analysts and execs, and then talk about the changing nature of analysts. Finally, by way of a question from James on IBM seeming to be more interested in conversations than “transactions” (helping IBM make money directly with increased sales) they discuss the short of ROI on analysts for companies.

MENLO PARK, August 3, 2006 (PodTech News) — IBM Corporation, or “Big Blue”, is the world’s largest information services company. It’s also one of the oldest. Since the 1920s, International Business Machines has grown a reputation as a reliable, solid, and somewhat buttoned-down, technology firm. But Ben Edwards, IBM’s Manager of New Media Communications, is working hard to change all that. Last fall, he helped launch a company-wide podcasting and blogging program that gives tools, voice, and creative license, to IBM’s some 330,000 employees and contractors, worldwide. PodTech’s Catherine Girardeau talked with Ben last month, and produced this news feature.

Last month IBM interviewed me while at the IBM headquarters meeting with their corporate podcast team (which I did an infoTalk interview for PodTech). Their internal podcast of me was distributed to all of their worldwide employees. I had a chance to speak about PodTech’s vision for podcasting as well as podcasting trends and successes. This is really cool opportunity to let the world hear something from the inside of IBM. Thanks IBM for letting me post this internal podcast here at PodTech and thanks for the Podcast!

This is exciting. I have re-published this IBM internal podcast with IBM’s permission. This is an example of what IBM has been publishing internally in an effort to educate their employees about podcasting and to encourage them to adopt internal podcasting through an internal podcast publishing pilot tool inside of IBM.

Who said IBM can’t be nimble and lead again. Amazing stuff. I’m excited to work with IBM. IBM is open and transparent. Great leadership in a new era of corporate communications and social media.
