Publishing - Media Formats

If you are submitting a video publishing request, you must upload these files:
1) One Flash encoded file (.flv)
2) One MPEG-4 file (.mp4) See iPod formatting instructions
4) One high resolution photo, screenshot, or graphic
You may also include an MP3 (audio rip). To export an MP3 file from a video using QuickTime on the Mac, first install the LAME MP3 QuickTime plugin. Make sure your exported MP3 file complies with the MP3 specs listed below. More info and links for Windows users here.

If you are submitting an audio publishing request, you must upload these files:
1) One MP3 file (.mp3)
2) One high resolution photo, screenshot, or graphic

The guidelines for video are:
* Container: MPEG-4 (.mp4) - do not save as .mov
* Frame size: 480×270 (16:9) or 360×270 (4:3)
* Frame rate: 30fps
* Codec: H.264
* Key frames: Every 5 frames or automatic
* Frame Reordering: on
* Quality: High or 75%
* Encoding: Best/multi-pass
* Data rate: restrict to 448 kbps video, 64kbps audio
* Optimize: For download
* Restrict to baseline profile

If the audio is music and important to the segment, you may increase the rate to 128kbps and reduce the video to 384kbps. The overall data rate can not exceed 512kbps.

If you’re using QuickTime Player Pro for exporting a H.264 MP4 file, you may want to see these helpful screenshots.

.flv and .wmv formats must also adhere to the same data rate requirement of 512kbps or less.

If you’re posting video, we must have a filename.mp4 version that is 480×270 or 360×270 with the above specs and a filename.flv (Flash) version with the same specs. The .flv version must include width, height and length metadata.

If you don’t have Adobe/Macromedia Flash Studio, you can use VisualHub (Mac) or Riva (Windows) to encode the Flash video file. More info can be found here. If you are using other software, please submit a sample for testing.

The guidelines for audio are:
* 16-bit 44.1KHz
* 128kbps Stereo or 64kbps Mono
* 95% of peak (-1dB)
* MP3
* Include 3-5 seconds of silence to the end of the MP3 file.

Make sure to fill out ID3 tags before uploading MP3s!
