This is the last in a series of three videos from IT@Intel, each featuring Omer Ben-Shalom, Principal Engineer with the Intel’s Information Technology Group. In these videos Omer demonstrates how Intel vPro technology System Defense filtering can be integrated with Security Event Management systems to improve corporate response capabilities to virus outbreaks, while at the same time reducing the resources required and improving speed to response. This third video demonstrates how a security event manager can programmatically utilize Intel vPro capabilities without human intervention through an existing AMT management system.

This second video shows how a human operator can use these Intel vPro technology capabilities to quarantine an offending host which has been detected by the security event management system.

The Reboot: Women and Video Games

Women used to be an afterthought in the video game world. Today, more women are involved in the billion-dollar industry as programmers, designers and of course, gamers. According to the Entertainment Software Association, thirty-eight percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the gaming population (31 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (20 percent). In this episode of The Reboot, host Rio Pesino interviews the Frag Dolls, Sheri Graner Ray of Women in Games International and others in the gaming industry about the rise of women gamers. Also on The Reboot, Master Chief is back to finish the fight on Halo 3, Playstation Portable sales are on the rise in Japan and a 12-year-old gamer gets his company $6.5 million in funding.

Microsoft’s Popfly: A Mashup Platform for Consumers

I was over at the Halo 3 launch party at Microsoft’s Silicon Valley campus and ran into Dan Fernandez, lead product manager for Visual Studio, demonstrating Popfly. It’s an alpha version of an easy-to-use mashup platform that allows consumers to easily create web services with multiple data sources, and embed them in their Web sites. These widgets can also be easiily shared amongst users. It is Microsoft’s first application of its Silverlight technology.

Live from IDF: Gelsinger Puts Nehalem and Virtualization on Display

In his keynote today at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, Patrick Gelsinger, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s Digital Enterprise Group, gave a broad update on Intel’s efforts this year.

In this podcast, Gelsinger covers what he calls the company’s “relentless pursuit of Moore’s Law,” spotlighting Nehalem (that’s the codename for “the first-ever Intel 45 nanometer High-k metal gate next-generation microarchitecture dual processor server,” according to company statements).

He also revealed Intel’s plans to build on the latest roll-out of Intel vPro processor technology with a 2008 release called “McCreary,” which will include new halogen and lead-free 45nm dual and quad-core processors.

Encryption and decryption technology is addressed with Danbury technology (one reaction to which can be found here).

Underscoring the current momentum around virtualization, Gelsinger was joined onstage at one point by John Fowler, executive vice president of Sun Microsystems. A demonstration of Intel Virtualization Technology and Intel Trusted Execution Technology shed some light on how Intel will provide protection for virtual environments in the workstations and desktop PCs of the future.
