Ron Likis heads up Centron Energy Corporation, a Wisconsin alternative energy company that has created a fuel additive that after 300 million of miles of testing, has been CARB approved and EPA recognized to decrease emissions and increase mileage in gasoline, ethanol, or diesel engines. I spoke with him about his company’s creation during iHollywood Forum’s Hollywood Goes Green.

Meet Davi Kutz

Davi Kutz is your ordinary Joe, living in North Hollywood, Calif. An avid outdoorsman, he’s also one lucky fellow. That’s because for the next three months, he’ll be one of 100 people in L.A., Washington, D.C. and New York City who will be driving a new Chevy Equinox hydrogen fuel cell vehicle as part of GM’s Project Driveway. The goal of the program is to put these test vehicles into the hands of average citizens, as well as some celebrities and policy makers, to obtain real-time driving data and consumer feedback. I met with Davi in Newport Beach, Calif., while at GM’s Electric Drive University, where I also got the opportunity to get behind the wheel of one of these prototype crossover SUV’s. Robert Ryan and Dana Andrews Had Daughters

Robert Ryan became a movie star working for Paramount Pictures and then RKO in the 1940s while Dana Andrews worked simultaneously for Samuel Goldwyn and Twentieth Century Fox. Their daughters, Lisa Ryan and Susan Andrews, talk about growing up with their famous fathers in Hollywood in the 1950s and coming to San Francisco in the 1960s where they live and work today.

smart’s 2007 Road Show

This past weekend we checked out out the smart Fortwo, during the 2007 street smart road show at Urban Outfitters on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, Calif. Audience reaction to the event and the car was mostly positive, as consumers, myself included, couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel for a test drive of this two-seat mini car already immensely popular in Europe.

All set for the Academy Awards tonight and I get this Gmail package from an anonymous Hollywood friend. Seems some folks like Harrison Ford and Sandra Bullock thought it was about time to thank all the little people for all the real work that gets done making movies. But you won’t see it tonight on the Oscars–the tribute was rejected at the last minute by the show producers.

Jerry Zucker at the Vloggies

Jerry Zucker, producer of Airplane, Ghost and The Naked Gun, spoke at the Vloggies, saying that he had no interest in videoblogging but adding that the Hollywood studios are a mess…. He was kidding, but he did say that online media is in its infancy, predicting that we’ll look back in 10 years to find that the Internet is now similar to what early television was like (with so many videos of people at home cooking or dancing or singing, he said his earliest attempts weren’t that different). Zucker said, “The best part about having a camera back in the old days was that we could do it ourselves — and this is the important thing to do now — just keep doing it and see the reaction you get and keep making it better until you have something that you can do that is really entertaining and consistent.” The Internet offers an exciting forum for expression, in that work no longer has to be filtered through executives and studios. Oh, and he promised to strictly devote his life to PodTech.

Blip.TV’s Dina Kaplan at the Vloggies

Second Annual Vloggies Date Announced

Yay! We’re announcing the date for the Second Annual Vloggies - as a big heads up. The industry will evolve so much within one year, and once again, we will ask the community for their input in how most effectively to continue promoting vlog creators, producers, and their work - from now through to next year.

The date will be Saturday, November 3, in Los Angeles — venue to be determined. Thoughts on venue, anyone? We have some ideas (Avalon would be great), and we’d also love to here yours.

Vloggies Night in San Francisco

The Vloggies first annual videoblog awards night made its debut in San Franscisco. The net paparazzi were out in force. PodTech, along with other videobloggers, has extensive coverage of the night. We will release that content shortly, but here is a short video showing the highlights.

Meanwhile, it was a huge night in for a new generation of media developers and videobloggers — a night to recognize and celebrate the great work of thousands of videobloggers and video developers. PodTech is proud to have put on the show and we’re excited to be developing some new video works and shows soon. We’re having fun and developing great friendships and business partnerships. Congratulations to all the winners and to all the videobloggers.

The night began with a special appearance from Jerry Zucker, who provided a short, funny and inspiring talk about how he, his brother David, and Jim Abrahams started. Kevin Marks captured it on video in the audience and posted it. Jerry compared how he got started (his early days were spent in his family’s basement) to the world of media today. He talks about how, in the beginning, it was about experimenting, playing and having fun, but they faced the additional challenge of getting people to see their stuff — they needed a theater. Today, the Internet makes that step a lot easier. “You have the possibility to take the stuff today and send it around the world… for almost nothing and the equipment is fantastic… This new technology will change the way we view entertainment,” Zucker said. “You are at the beginning of it.”

It was a great evening. Robert Scoble was blogging non-stop the entire night and has great posts here and here. Tom, whom I interviewed on the red couch at the party, has the first post of the night. Here are some amazing photos by Scott Beale of Laughing Squid who captured the event via photoblogging. Rene Bloggett has an indepth post with photos. Beachwalks, who captured three vloggies, has video up on their blog. Thomas Hawk was photowalking the show, too. As usual he has a great set of pics.

Forrester Research: Consumer Demand Will Define Internet Video

To many TV watchers and users of Internet-based media services, Hollywood is expected to call the shots on how video is delivered. After all, Napster, Grokster and others didn’t get very far with peer-to-peer networks. But analysts like Forrester’s Maribel Lopez say the profusion of devices and services in the hands of end users might determine the nature of the coming IP-based video landscape. She spoke with PodTech’s Jason Lopez at the Forrester Research Consumer Forum 2006 in Chicago.

RawFlow’s New Live Streaming Software

LOS ANGELES, October 31, 2006, (PodTech News) — As more and more content gets distributed over the Internet, P2P is finally getting a little respect. By distributing a broadcast’s bandwidth requirement over an entire network of participants rather than originating it from one central broadcast point, the file-sharing technology reduces bandwith costs. As the audience grows, so do the network resources available to distribute that broadcast without adding any additional bandwidth costs. According to RawFlow CEO Mikkel Dissing, this makes broadcasting over the Internet scalable. Dissing spoke with PodTech’s Matt Kelly at Digital Hollywood, an entertainment and technology conference in Santa Monica, Calif., and discussed the benefit of his company’s live streaming software.

The Lowdown on Movie Downloads

LOS ANGELES, October 10, 2006, (PodTech News) - Last month, Apple unveiled its long-awaited movie download store and within a week sold 125,000 downloads, generating $1 million in revenue for the House of Mouse. Yet despite the success, only 75 Disney titles were available. Absent were movies from some of the largest Hollywood studios. NBC recently released a series of six mini-games for mobile phones. Each is a “spin-off” from The Office, which airs on the network. Currently available on some carriers, the games will become more widely available on other carriers over the next few weeks.

Mumbai-based Indiagames Ltd. created the games for NBC. We spoke to Sean Malatesta, VP, Americas, about Indiagames and its strategy in the Americas.

CTIA Day 2: Hollywood, Gaming and Wireless Executives Discuss the Mobile Enterprise Space in Roundtable Discussion

Day 2 of the CTIA Wireless IT and Entertainment trade show in Los Angeles began with a mobile entertainment roundtable featuring three executives from the industries seeking to monetize the thrid screen — Hollywood, gaming and wireless providers. The panelists included Michael Lynton, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Mitch Laskey, senior vice president of EA Mobile and Lowell McAdam, executive vice president and COO of Verizon Wireless. Moderating the discussion was Wall Street Journal personal technology columnist Walter Mossberg.
