The Reboot: Trophies and Gamercards Coming to PS3

New screens of what looks like Sony’s answer to Xbox Live were leaked over the Internet this week. Rumor has it that the Playstation 3’s next firmware update will include a trophy “reward” system and gamercards. Also, in this episode of The Reboot, with host Rio Pesino, a Los Angeles-based production company dismisses its lawsuit against Nintendo, another Playstation Phone rumor hits the Web, and a new survey says the average gamer spends $30,000 on video games.

Kratos makes his debut on the Playstation Portable in God of War: Chains of Olympus. The game is a prequel to the first God of War, which was one of the best games ever to come out on the Playstation 2. Fans of the God of War series and PSP owners have been looking forward to this game ever since developer Ready at Dawn Studios announced that it would come out for the handheld system. The buzz surrounding Chains of Olympus was so big that Sony even unveiled a God of War PSP bundle before the game was released. But does it live up to the hype? The Reboot: Capcom Digital Day

Downloadable games were the focus of Capcom’s Digital Day. During the press-only event, Capcom did not talk about Street Fighter IV or Resident Evil 5. Instead, the game developer showed off an updated version of and several other games that will soon be available on Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network. In this episode of The Reboot, host Rio Pesino gives you a preview of HD Remix and other gaming news for the week, including Super Smash Bros. Brawl Disc Issues, another Xbox 360 price drop and the results of a survey that says gaming is more popular than sex. In fact, in honor of that last item, we’ve put together a little treat for viewers, featuring some interesting moments from Dead or Alive, Rumble Roses, Ms. Pac Man and Dixie Kong….

The Reboot: NFL Tour Review

The Reboot: CES 2008

The Consumer Electronics Show usually isn’t a big show for gamers, but this year’s event was expected to be different. CES dedicated more show floor space for its Gaming Showcase and there were even rumors that Microsoft’s Bill Gates would reveal a new version of the Xbox 360 at the event. Instead, gamers who attended CES were disappointed with no announcement of a new 360 and a Gaming Showcase that was lacking in video games. However, there were some major gaming annoucements made at CES. Sony used the event to promote new Playstation Portable applications and show off its most creative game yet, while Microsoft unveiled several new Games for Windows, including Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures and Space Siege. Texas Instruments also showed off its DualView technology, which could change the face of gaming forever. In this episode of The Reboot, host Rio Pesino gives you his take on what stood out at CES.

A Thin Internet Portal for Mobile Devices

As more and more cellphones become Web enabled, Anurag Nigam and Manish Lachwani, co-founders of InSync Inc., believe there is a growing need for an Internet portal for mobile devices. Their San Francisco-based, self-funded startup, 411Synch enables anyone to access their favorites on the Web with one touch, keyword strokes. Users can either create their own keywords or use more half a million keywords created by the community to easily find their favorite content on the Web from their cellphone, Playstation or an any Web enabled mobile device.

The Reboot: Women and Video Games

Women used to be an afterthought in the video game world. Today, more women are involved in the billion-dollar industry as programmers, designers and of course, gamers. According to the Entertainment Software Association, thirty-eight percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the gaming population (31 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (20 percent). In this episode of The Reboot, host Rio Pesino interviews the Frag Dolls, Sheri Graner Ray of Women in Games International and others in the gaming industry about the rise of women gamers. Nearly 40,000 people attended this year’s festival, which features tabletop, PC and console games from over 40 game publishers like Microsoft, Sony and Ubisoft. A few well-known figures were also at PAX ‘07, including actor Wil Wheaton and the Frag Dolls. Havok Behavior Debuts at the Game Developers Conference

Doing 360’s with Guitar Hero II

Video game company Activision unveiled a playable version of Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 at CES 2007. The popular guitar rhythm game is only available in a version released a few months ago for the Sony Playstation 2, but the soon-to-be-released 360 version will have a new guitar controller, updated graphics and new songs. Gaming’s Best and Worst of 2006

SAN FRANCISCO, November 18, 2006 (PodTech News) — This week saw the highly-anticipated launch of the new Sony Playstation 3. The first few buyers to get their hands on the new system waited for about 40 hours outside of the Sony store in San Francisco. Rio Pesino spoke with them shortly after their late-night purchases.

Open Source has come to Sun Microsystems, following a promise earlier this year from CEO Jonathan Schwartz. The move was made official this week, with endorsements from the open-source community. Catherine Girardeau reports.

IT security in the federal government is a matter of grave concern. Security, compliance and the new technologies that are quickly growing up around increasing demand took center stage at an IT security conference in the nation’s capital, where Clark Boyd continued his survey of cyber security.

Now, almost two weeks after Election Day, Matt Kelly revisits the issue of electronic voting — how the machines performed, and what some experts are still concerned about.

Sony Playstation 3 Launch is Near

Hundreds of people are lined up outside the Sony Metreon in San Francisco, hoping to buy a Sony PS3 gaming console, which will go on sale across the country at midnight. With so many people already in line, even before they’ve used the new machine and before they know how it will compare to competitors like the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, is it possible they’re really more interested in snapping up the scarce machines — only 400,000 will be delivered in the U.S. for now — in order to sell them online? PodTech’s Rio Pesino spoke with several hardcore PS3 fans waiting in line to buy the next-gen console.
