David Thor, managing director of Thing5, discusses his firm’s deployment of Verizon Business IP Trunking with Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks (B.E.S.T.). B.E.S.T. is a newly available IP trunking feature that enables on-demand sharing of under-utilized trunk capacity. Verizon Business is the only major North American service provider to offer this capability that quickly shifts bandwidth from one location to another.

As a growth company itself, Infopia delivers a SaaS (software as a service) eCommerce platform for businesses that need to manage the common operational challenges that growth creates. Things like inventory management and merchandising, order management, and shipping and fulfillment all work together in a seamless online system.

Infopia is the “next step” for many of the savviest online sellers looking to grow their business. Titanium and Platinum PowerSellers on eBay, not to mention multi-million dollar merchants who primarily sell on their Web sites, have dramatically improved revenues with Infopia.

Espenes sits down with Brad Baldwin from Rocky Mountain Voices to share the Infopia story and highlight the business problems Infopia solves. Espense shows why he was recognized as one of the Top 40 Executives Under 40 and a member of vSpring Capital’s v100 Entrepreneurs.

These “Emerging Compute Models” are creating a lot of buzz, but also a lot of confusion in the IT community. That’s why this video podcast focuses on Intel’s Emerging Compute Model Forum. Jason Davidson, technical evangelist for the forum, says IT shops are experimenting with new ways to deliver applications and operating systems, but there’s no consensus on the best model, or models, to use.

In this podcast, Davidson and his colleagues Mike Ferron-Jones, marketing manager for Intel’s Emerging Compute Models program, and Chuck Brown, who directs the program, lay out the basic questions IT managers need to ask before choosing new compute models, discuss some of the pros and cons of different models, and preview some Intel and industry developments in the ECM space.

In the second part of my conversation with BMC Software’s Israel Gat, we talk about virtualization and IT Management for SaaS. Israel points to the energy savings benefits of virtualization and also the deployment benefits it brings, using the example of managing many different types encryption software.

We then talk about pulling knowledge from the mainframe world into a more virtualized world: are there lessons to re-learn? When it comes to SaaS, Israel explains how multi-tenant systems can be used to upgrade customers when they’d like to upgrade, and also how a SaaS hosted environment might allow for more targeted features per a customer. Managing those deployment processed, of course, are ripe for IT management software, platforms, and services.

David Doane, president and CEO of PresenceID, talks with Brad Baldwin about identity transparency and growing trend towards the virtual workplace. Doane proposes the possibility of ultimately decoupling not only users from the physical network environment, but also allowing all of our files and technology resources to be decoupled from their physical platforms as well. A new level of “identity transparency” would exist that would allow us to set up our entire workplace instantly and completely from wherever we like.

Unified identity and service delivery is a new approach to providing each user with access to everything they’re authorized via a bookmark entry in their Web browser. This virtual desktop gets them productive quickly, greatly increases security, and enhances the massive investments in current infrastructure and procedures. Unifying identity across the enterprise, identity presence, requires a platform that provisions, synchronizes and self-heals identify information across all mainframe, client-server and SaaS solutions by providing identity-as-a-service in a SOA. Unified identity also greatly facilitates effective hardware virtualization of applications and services with VMware, Xen and others.
