Whether you call it a credit crunch or a credit squeeze, there’s evidence to be found that the chilled climate for deals has spread from the realm of the mega-deal into the middle market. To discuss the new economic realities in deal-making, The Deal convened a panel, “Deals in the Middle Market: How do they differ in this climate?” at the recent Private Capital Symposium, held in New York City.
For this podcast, panelists Steven Rattner, managing director, DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, and James Epstein, partner, Pepper Hamilton, spoke with PodTech’s Jason Lopez.
The Deal’s Private Capital Symposium brought together private equity professionals, angel investors, buyout and venture investors, corporate acquisition professionals, M&A advisors and professional services providers. The event took place in New York’s Essex House, on May 14, 2008.

MENLO PARK, September 5, 2006 (PodTech News) — An announcement today that Apple will be holding an invitation-only press event in San Francisco on September 12th is providing plenty of grist for the rumor mill, with the fringes dreaming of iPod-phones, and the mainstream predicting full-length movie downloads (and an upgraded iPod to play them on). PodTech’s Catherine Girardeau spoke with Rob Enderle of the Enderle Group to sort through some of the grist from the mill.
MENLO PARK, August 30, 2006 (PodTech News) — Yahoo Inc. announced Tuesday it’s added Windows-based mobile phones to the list of phones that offer the Yahoo Go for Mobile suite, which includes e-mail, calendar, news, and photo albums. Internet companies are scrambling to give consumers the ability to stay connected to the functions they depend on when they’re tethered to their desks — even when they’re on the go. To do this, the companies are looking for partnerships with wireless carriers and mobile device manufacturers. PodTech’s Catherine Girardeau visited Yahoo’s Sunnyvale campus to talk Yahoo Go with David Riemer, vice president of marketing for Connected Life at Yahoo.

Research Director Andrew Frank. PodTech’s Catherine Girardeau interviewed Frank by phone from his office in New York.
