Although they are shifting most resources to the web, the CSM will have a print version as Yemma believes print has a place in the future of journalism. The CSM is seeking journalists who have a web background in addition to being journalists—quite a talent to find.

The many online social media have become an important part of the marketing mix for many corporations and organizations. Whether it means listening to online conversations, participating in communities of enthusiasts, clients, consumers or social networks, or simply increasing transparency, understanding how social media can be made to work for you is key to building stronger brand engagement and loyalty. It’s also going to save you money. But how?

In this video podcast, Marketing Voices’ Jennifer Jones, and others, talk with industry insiders to find out how combining social media with the art of storytelling in blogs, wikis and podcasts will foster conversations, convert incremental audience, and ultimately increase audiences’ engagement with brands. How can you use social media to create a voice for your brand that resonates beyond your corporate Web site? How can syndication help move your brand’s voice to your audiences, and bring those audiences back to your brand?

What would your response be to this scenario: you’re watching television and you forget that it’s being distributed to you on the Internet. Who won? TV or the Web? James McQuivey covers television and media technologies for Forrester Research. He spoke with PodTech’s Jason Lopez about the current state of affairs for this audio podcast.

Friday’s announcement from Yahoo! Video touted a “wider viewing experience,” in addition to more content, bigger files and more sharing opportunities. And then there are those who ask whether another user-generated video site is what we really need.

Then there’s Apple TV Take Two. Steve Jobs and Apple continue to suggest that integration, convergence and usability might help consumers make the switch from TV as they know it to greater reliance on broadband and computing for downloadable video (including movie rentals).

Regardless of where things will ultimately end up, TV set sales are still big business (you may have seen coverage recently suggesting that men would still make considerable sacrifices in order to get a 50-inch TV display. We might as well ask: what would you be willing to give up for a big TV?

Welcome to the first video installment of our new “Dinner And A…” series. In this episode, we get a visit from Ryanne Hodson of RyanIsHungry, Jay Dedman of Momentshowing, and Eddie Codel of Geek Entertainment TV.

As this was our first attempt at capturing a dinner event in episodic format, I’m sure we missed a few details. That’s ok, the company was great and the food was spot on. Ryanne and Jay brought some fresh mixed greens from their backyard garden, along with a mystery squash that they had grown from seed. Eddie brought along an organic chardonnay that suited his Gary Vaynerchuk alter-ego just fine. Ryanne and Jay’s squash was destined to become a spiced squash soup, featuring the surprising combination of cinnamon and dill. And even I was surprised by the liveliness of their fresh greens. I’m still always struck by the difference between produce served minutes or hours after picking, rather than days or weeks.

The evening was filled with roving topics, like any good dinner party should be, though eventually we settled on cross-promotion and surviving in a new medium. Making a go of it in the world of online content is still a tremendous challenge; the industry at this point is still a sea of turbulent waters. Add to this the issues of unaffordable health care and fading social security, and the outlook could appear grim for long-term survival in the video blogging world. Young professionals in today’s work force, especially the increasing ranks of freelance professionals, are in for a potentially bumpy road. There are some real advantages to the transient work life that has evolved in modern America, such as greater flexibility to pursue interests and less likelihood of chronic boredom. However these perks in many lie on top of a shakey foundation. Dismal health coverage was unanimous among us, and at the current rate social security will be a thing of the past well before we’re likely to need it. Talk about a domestic threat – the office of homeland security needs to sic itself on reinstituting usury laws, reducing insurance premiums, and fighting labor loss and infrastructure deterioration in order for us to have a truly safe and stable country. There was a palpable patriotism to much of the evening’s discussion; despite the likelihood of choppy waters ahead, everyone present seemed interested and determined to make a positive change in their corner of the world.

In the end, we’re blessed enough to be doing what we have a passion for, making content, entertaining, trying to affect change. None of us are likely to switch jobs any time soon.

On the subject of passion, this Friday night the Freshtopia.net team, along with Ryanne and Jay, and Doctor Popular will be presenting at Eddie Codel’s Video Salon Redux . If you’re in San Francisco Friday night, consider stopping by and saying hello.

Happy Dinning,

Isolating conversations around products, brands and issues is now possible through BuzzLogic’s new ad targeting feature. In this Marketing Voices product demo video podcast, BuzzLogic CEO Rob Crumpler explains how his company can help marketers better determine who is driving online opinions.

When the service launched earlier this month, news coverage highlighted the potential value to marketers who have been searching for effective ways to participate in discussions and debates online in communities where some of their most passionate potential consumers are already sharing ideas.

The bottom line for BuzzLogic customers, according to ClickZ, the largest resource of interactive marketing news, is that the social media universe can now be managed as one single channel. There is now a new ability to cut through the noise to the 10 or 20 most influential bloggers - a slight tweak on competitors’ offerings in that the focus is not necessarily on the most popular blogs, but specifically the most “influential.”

In his conversation with Jennifer Jones, CEO Crumpler says this conversation targeting ad system delivers more than two times the performance than what could be done just a few months ago. More coverage on the offering, as well as in-depth coverage on related stories, can be found at marketing news site Marketingvox.com.

HP Total Care’s aim is to provide before, during and after- purchase support, making it easier for companies to focus on their products and clients, and less on the technology that they rely on to get things done.

Featuring expert advice, helpful services, easy-to-use tools and resources for do-it-yourself fixes, and “real live” expert support, HP Total Care is designed to give SMB the best technology experience. The offerings include HP ProtectTools, Accidental Damage Protection with Computrace, HP Backup and Recovery Manager, Smart Desktop Management services, free online classes, white papers, and “How-to-IT guides” that help explain IT security options.

In this video podcast highlight, we speak with Worldwide HP Total Care Manager Greg Nika, and Tom Szaky, CEO and founder of TerraCycle, Bill Seidle, program manager, PSG Americas at HP, and John Dayan, VP for marketing and business development, PSG Americas at HP.

TerraCycle founder Szaky welcomes the freedom that Total Care gives him to focus on, well, garbage (TerraCycle repurposes garbage, packages its product in garbage, and has been distributed in the U.S. and Canada by leading retailers such as Home Depot, Wal*Mart, Whole Foods and hardware stores.

Also on hand for the announcement were the celebrity “achievers” who have made their “faceless” statements in television advertisements spotlighting the adaptability and versatility of HP’s personal computing technology, including Olympic Gold Medalist Snowboarder Shaun White, Tennis Pro and fashion designer Serena Williams, supermodel Petra Nemcova and The Orange County Choppers. Other mobility products and services were announced at the “Your Life is the Show” launch event.

Nancy Bhagat is the vice president for the sales and marketing group and director of integrated marketing at Intel. She joined MarketingVoices’ Jennifer Jones a little background on the Upload Lounge that Intel provided for the first time this past year at the Fall IDF. Every year for the past ten years in San Francisco, Intel has convened its Fall developer forum, and as the chip giant continues to address integrated computing environments, the Upload Lounge was a physical acknowledgment of the significance that social media messaging is taking on. Bhagat says that, at least at Intel, the executive team is on board when it comes to implementing social media strategy — a reality that has allowed her to re-brand her own team as an “integrated marketing” department. The marketing “mix” that Bhagat is excited to foster includes traditional media as well as the elaborate peer-oriented network that developers around the world already rely on for so much information and support. Looking ahead, Bhagat says that the measurement for new efforts online will stress engagement through increasingly complex messaging. On the marketing budget side, Bhagat is expecting that Intel will continue to stay out front in terms of stressing innovation in online and social media marketing efforts.

Users are looking for a richer, more cinematic experience from the Internet, according to Justin Rattner, Intel chief technology officer and director, Corporate Technology Group. Rattner gave the final keynote of the Fall IDF in San Francisco, focusing on virtual worlds, which are evolving into what he referred to as the “3-D Internet,” in a keynote titled, “Research and Development: Virtual Worlds - The Rise of the 3D Internet.”

Rattner, who spoke with PodTech’s Michael Johnson to give a preview of the Fall IDF, wrapped up the annual developer conference by acknowledging Wired Magazine’s prediction that, as social media and user-generated content hit the mainstream at the same time as the rise of broadband and increased connectivity (and mobility), the coming year could see 60 million participants in online virtual worlds.

Rattner was also joined onstage by Greg Nuyens, CEO of Qwaq, who demoed virtual worlds for the enterprise. Outside of business applications, virtual surgery (especially as a training tool) suggests that realistic virtual environments are already a significant force in some communities.

The larger message that Rattner left the crowd with was that the computing power that will be necessary to deliver this rich 3-D experience will have to be substantial, especially given the demand that real time or “frame rate” visual experience for the 3D Web will demand.

Investors such as Jay MacDonald and Bill Detwiler are bullish on web-based advertising. MacDonald says advertisers have always wanted to know exactly who listened to their ads on radio or saw them in magazines. You cannot click on a newspaper ad. But with features like interactivity and social media that add value to online adverts, the Internet promises to increase the effectiveness of messages. Jason Lopez recorded this podcast for PodTech at the Convergence 2.0 conference, presented by The Deal, in New York City.

The first company to deploy Centrino Pro on a large scale was the company that created Centrino Pro. “We’re some of the first testers of technology,” says Laurie Buczek, Intel’s Global Web Program Manager. Intel’s own IT people learned how to integrate Intel technology. How much is that knowledge worth? Buczek says it’s valuable to Intel to share that knowledge in a social media format where ideas and questions go uncensored, and content is largely made by bloggers and commenters outside of the company. “That is the only that you can truly learn and be innovative in creating products and technologies that are going to address real world issues out there. We have to be close to our customer base and the community allows us to do that,” she asserts. On this PodTech podcast Buczek speaks about the the new online community, and three of Intel’s security pros — who will particpate in upcoming conversations — give a taste of the personality of IT@Intel.
