Join BearingPoint Senior Manager Pat Tobin as he explores the importance of Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) and how it can directly impact your bottom line. With a 50 percent growth in storage data of companies in recent years, the ILM Solution has evolved heavily over the past seven years. Companies that typically used a centralized system to store data now want much more control over their information and are turning to the ILM solution for that support.

The ILM Solution is also heavily used for E-discovery. With E-discovery costs on the rise, organizations are in need of a solution that assists with gathering only the necessary data, and not just a compilation of tons of document that are not needed. With every litigation suite, there is only a certain amount of documentation needed. Clients can experience massive cost decreases when just the necessary data is pulled.

With the many positives of designing an effective ILM solution come some struggles. Firms have legacy data all over the place. It is a very big obstacle trying to balance all of the data, plus input anything new. Another challenge is the need for a lot of governance. With all of the legalities, it’s extremely important to know the regulations and compliance issues up front. Lastly, an organization needs guidance on how to initiate this solution and where it should end. This is where BearingPoint can assist. ILM is a journey, but a journey worth pursuing. This journey will result in massive cost reduction and extreme efficiency for all your storage needs.

It may seem obvious that planning pays. But for those CIOs and their staffs, managing an IT infrastructure often occurs in an environment where problems are moving targets. Many organizations have little time to plan ahead. But they must. “You’re not going to get there unless you have a plan,” says Bob Stoddard, Intel IT Architect. He was on the team that molded Intel’s IT plan starting in late 1990s. Almost a decade later, Intel’s IT shop is seeing dividends from that plan in the form of lower TCO and improved client efficiency. “vPro is really a beachhead for us in cracking the code to get closer to an end-to-end management solution, not just for the client, but across compute network and storage,” says Prasad Rampalli, vice president of Intel’s Digital Enterprise Group. “vPro transcends clients all the way to the data center.” In this podcast, Intel’s Josh Hilliker, Prasad Rampalli and Bob Stoddard discuss the role of planning and why IT architecture is crucial to success.

Enterprise storage is often associated with companies that produce volumes of business data. But the need for mission-critical data storage is growing acutely in one area that many users take for granted: video. It’s a data hog. Now, with high definition looming and increasing demand for video on the Web, the need for storage in our home devices and in professional settings is only going to require better performing storage solutions. In this podcast interview, Joe Rorke, of Rorke Data, discusses the rise of video and the best practices for media storage.

This podcast is the second in a series covering the basic design considerations that customers of all sizes should be mindful of as they begin to explore the many benefits of VDI. John Dodge takes a pragmatic, layered approach in working towards a framework in designing flexible, and scalable VDI deployments, as is discussed in this podcast. From Thin Clients, to PC’s, to connectivity and networks, to security, DMZ, and firewall considerations, to connection broker topology, then into the host, hypervisor, storage, operating system, and lastly application and user profile layer - all combine to provide a best practices model for elegantly designing new desktop architectures using VMware VDI and Thinapp.

Join BearingPoint Senior Manager John Gill as he explores Information Management, but more specifically, the importance of BI and Performance Management. Information Management is focused on identifying the best way to get information to the proper channels. In many instances, this involves looking at three keys areas; analytics, sharing and storage. Analytics focuses on deciding who should get what type of information to make better decisions that will impact the company’s performance. Sharing determines how to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of a solution and storage is needed to decide what to do with the information once it’s received. These three areas are the main focus of our IM practice and what constitutes success for our clients. Many businesses are looking for Business Intelligence and Performance Management (BI/PM) which goes beyond traditional management reporting. Our BI/PM solution enables an information-based business strategy and assists with charting a path to financial services success. BI, which encompasses the analysis, presentation and delivery of information to business users, is a significant tool in assisting with the reduction of overall spending and making better business decisions. BearingPoint’s new thinking has focused its attention on providing IM solutions around credit crisis risk, management reporting and a better understanding of data. We are dedicated to providing our clients with information in a faster fashion to enable our clients to have better information management. With our wide selection of offerings, this is an exciting time for IM.

Robert Taylor, CEO of KennTechnologies, Inc. and former CIO at Fulton County, Georgia, spoke with Patrick E. Spencer, Symantec’s director of publishing and customer marketing programs and editor in chief of CIO Digest, about the unique IT challenges local government CIOs face today, ranging from email and document archiving and e-discovery, to endpoint security, to storage management. Under Robert’s direction, the IT department at Fulton County, Georgia received numerous accolades and awards for its technology thought leadership. The role and importance of technology was accentuated in the story surrounding Andrew Speaker, the TB patient who flew to France for his wedding and returned to the U.S. through Canada. For more on Robert and how the technologies his team implemented helped in uncovering email and voice mail related to Andrew Speaker and his interaction with Fulton County, check out the InfoWorld article .
