From games to television, from large systems to handhelds, the demand on hardware and software platforms will be to run large amounts of data more efficiently with less power. Some of the breakthroughs to bring video and audio more easily and seamlessly to users include the scalable Nehalem chip architecture, the Media Processor CE 3100, and the architecture codenamed Larrabee.

Join BearingPoint Senior Vice President Marcel Nickler as he explores the importance of IT governance. In today’s difficult economical environment, there is a lot of pressure to deliver more services and performance with less or limited resources. There is also a clear expectation towards IT, which is that the services offered and delivered upon must support the further development of the business in an increasingly international or even global environment.

The convergence of business and IT has offered the advantage of merging the respective strategies of each. This collaboration is a must when aiming to reach a competitive advantage through application IT. With increasing IT costs over the last year, there’s been significant pressure to deliver. By joining business and IT, the related business advantage is obvious; important decisions are jointly agreed upon by the board members, business management and the IT department.

In today’s market, organizations need to take proper steps to solve their IT governance problems. They must establish a focused management team and have control of projects, investments and IT services. This will create short term impact and better results for future success. Stringent IT Governance can improve the competitiveness and adaptability of a company. The establishment of IT Governance is a very challenging obstacle, but the end result is always a success.

This podcast is the second in a series covering the basic design considerations that customers of all sizes should be mindful of as they begin to explore the many benefits of VDI. John Dodge takes a pragmatic, layered approach in working towards a framework in designing flexible, and scalable VDI deployments, as is discussed in this podcast. From Thin Clients, to PC’s, to connectivity and networks, to security, DMZ, and firewall considerations, to connection broker topology, then into the host, hypervisor, storage, operating system, and lastly application and user profile layer - all combine to provide a best practices model for elegantly designing new desktop architectures using VMware VDI and Thinapp.

This Podcast covers the basic requirements customers of all sizes should consider in begging to look at alternative ways to architect their desktop populations. As we like to say, the desktop is no longer a NOUN, or a singular physical asset that we provision and deploy to end users, waiting for it or its software components to break then fix. The Desktop is in fact a VERB, it is something you do, it is really a workspace where computers, applications, and users converge so they can do the jobs we assign to them. VMware Enterprise Desktop solutions, including VDI and Thinapp allow us to do just that. However, any successful deployment hinges on a successful assessment of what your users need, today, to “desktop”.

Join BearingPoint Director Matthew O’Mara to explore speed to market and why it’s such a hot topic in today’s insurance industry. With many clients not fully understanding what it is and why it is needed, speed to market, as the term implies, refers to a company’s ability to develop and introduce products to the market quickly.

For a company to capture the potential offered by speed to market as a competitive capability, they must be aware of the new and updated products being offered in the marketplace. This means that you can not only respond to the demands, you need to anticipate them by continually developing and testing new products and services. A company’s ability to develop and offer new products quickly is the key to satisfying the needs and demands of the marketplace.

Speed to market can deliver improved competitive capability to a company if it is done correctly. Involving the right people, systems and processes to identify where, what and how to change is critical. Although it is not easy or necessarily fast to do, improving speed to market at a company can generate great benefits to its bottom line, market image and competitive abilities.

The Intel Developer Forum has evolved into one of the most important technology events of the year. For anyone making hardware and software, IDF provides a way to learn about critical advances in chip design, and it gives Intel the opportunity to get feedback from developers. For the rest of the world, IDF is where Intel’s latest thinking comes to light about the way people use computers and how to design better chips. At the upcoming IDF, Intel will give insights into next generation microarchitecture, mobile Internet devices, nettops and netbooks, consumer electronics, and embedded computing. In this video podcast, we take a brief look back at past IDFs leading up to this August 19-21 in San Francisco’s Moscone Center West.

In this podcast, enterprise architecture expert Steven Kahn discusses some of the findings that went into the recently published, An Implementor’s Guide to Service Oriented Architecture - Getting it Right, produced by BearingPoint, Composite Software and other contributors. The bottom line: successful implementation of an SOA system is about more than technology. As Kahn explains, challenges in understanding the technology, to developing an IT funding model that will enable it to serve across the enterprise are all critical to success. There are many common implementation pitfalls, but Kahn explains how the process can be made simpler, and hopes to encourage more people to deploy their own SOA.

Steven Kahn is a senior manager in BearingPoint’s commercial services business systems integration practice where he works to define and deliver value-driven SOA and BPM solutions. He specializes in enterprise architectures with specific emphasis on enterprise integration and business process management.

Here’s one student that takes the “Science Fair” to the next level. Bridger Maxwell, a high school student at Utah County Academy of Sciences (UCAS) decided to create a multi-touch table for his Science Fair entry–kinda like an iPhone screen, and Microsoft Surface on a budget.

The multi-touch experience allows for object movement, rotation, growing and shrinking, and even multi-hand, multi-person use. Inspired by movies like Minority Report, Maxwell leverages Apple OS X, code developed during Google Summer of Code called Open Touch, and his own code. The table, made from plexiglass and a dissembled Acer monitor, uses infrared light emitting diodes and an IR camera to detect and transmit fingertip motions as inputs.

Maxwell also expects to experience a future where multi-touch technology becomes a standard way to interact with applications, particularly for graphic manipulation and even gaming. Maxwell submitted his code back to the community at code.google.com/p/corkboard/ and has received coverage on Ars Technica and a local NBC news story.

Maxwell also expects to experience a future where multi-touch technology becomes a standard way to interact with applications, particularly for graphic manipulation and even gaming. While Maxwell didn’t get a summer internship on the iPhone team “this” year, has received coverage on Ars Technica and the local NBC news station. Not bad for a high school student.
