At the Internet Strategy Forum last week, I met Mike Moran, who gave an interesting talk about, um, marketing. Huh? A distinguished engineer at IBM talking about marketing? What? Listen in and learn about Mike’s ideas on marketing.
Also a visit to the best hair salon in San Francisco - Red Union Salon.

Pandora is one of my favorite Internet services. It lets you build a customized radio station by starting with the names of your favorite bands and songs. It then brings you more music that’s similar to that. Here Pandora’s CTO, Tom Conrad, talks about the service, demos its new mobile service, and discusses new legislation under discussion that is designed to help keep Internet radio alive. For those who don’t know, Tom explains how the music industry is threatening to decimate Internet Radio providers by charging new, much higher, fees than regular radio has to pay to broadcast music. We have an interesting discussion about that while walking around San Francisco on a Saturday afternoon.

ConceptShare was my favorite thing at the recent Office 2.0 Conference. Here I run into Bernie Aho, co-founder of ConceptShare, at the Mix BlogZone last week and he gave me a short demo. ConceptShare lets you work with designers on, say, a brochure, or a Web site design, or other design elements and projects.

I was one of the few outsiders to visit eBay and witness an internal “Demo Expo.” The Demo Expo was a way for employees to come up with a new technology or feature and show it off to eBay’s employees and executives. I picked my favorite four teams, and this is one of them. Thanks to eBay’s Disruptive Innovations team, which is the one that put together the Demo Expo and invited me along. The only rule was that these projects had to use eBay’s standard publicly-available APIs.
Here Neel Sundaresan, distinguished research scientist, eBay Research Labs, shows me Emosi Sosial, which is like a tag cloud, but shows me very quickly whether a seller is highly regarded or not in the areas most important to the interested buyer.

Here we continue our Photowalk around Half Moon Bay with a 600mm monster lens where we take photos of people looking at tide pools, stunt bikers jumping over rocks, and more surfers. All while meeting some of the 25 people who showed up for the Photowalk. Next Photowalk, by the way, is on Sunday, April 29th, at the Half Moon Bay airport where we’ll be shooting some of 2,000 “dream machines.” You’re welcome to come along. Meet at the front gate of dream machines at 9 a.m., or call Scoble at 425-205-1921 to join in.
