Jonathan Schwartz on why Sun Microsystems is relevant

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Jonathan Schwartz, CEO of Sun Microsystems, sat down with me recently to talk about a wide range of topics from trends in the datacenter to why he thinks more CEOs should blog.

Every week on the ScobleShow I’ll try to get to a different CEO and learn more about their business. Not everyone will be a big company like Sun Microsystems. If you’d like to get your CEO on the show, please write me at robert@podtech.net.

Photowalking with Thomas Hawk, Part I

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Thomas Hawk shows up at many Silicon Valley geek events and he makes some of the best images I’ve ever seen.

This video came about because I wanted to learn more about how he does it.

It’s remarkable video where you’ll learn a lot about the creative process, not to mention the latest equipment, see some good techniques to find unique images, and more. One of the images made on the evening we walked around is already the #2 most interesting photo on Flickr of the Golden Gate Bridge.

This series is long. We filmed for more than an hour and we’ll run it in four segments over the next week.

Oh, and if you’d like to be the next photographer on our photo walk, please do contact me at robert@podtech.net

JotSpot: Enterprise Wiki Service

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Every week we’ll run a demo of a product you might not have tried yet. When I shoot these I tell the person doing the demo that they have to keep it short. But it’s a good way to see a new technology product every week (or maybe more) without having to sign up or install or buy anything.

If you have a product you think would be good to demo on the ScobleShow, please email me at robert@podtech.net.

SAP’s exec star talks about the new business

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Shai Agassi is one of enterprise software giant SAP’s brightest stars. At age 34 he was the youngest to be named to its executive board (one of seven people who run SAP). At SAP’s recent TechED conference I met Shai in the hallway and had a quick chat with him about what he’s seeing happen inside not only SAP’s business, but all the businesses that Shai deals with. Since SAP is used to help run many of the world’s largest businesses, Shai has a unique perspective.

Talking about XML with Tim Bray, XML’s co-creator

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Even Tim Bray is blown away at the popularity of XML. He was one of the co-creators of the XML spec back in the mid 1990s and in this audio interview he and I talk about the state of XML and get his views on what the future holds for XML and other derivative formats like RSS and Atom.

For developers only: Language Wars

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Every week on the ScobleShow I’ll try to have a geek on that’ll teach you something, well, geeky. You know, a tip on how to do AJAX right or a look inside a development tool like a new version of Eclipse or Visual Studio or an updated or new framework like Ruby on Rails. This week, however, we have something a little more fun: a language war. The setting for this conversation? My mom’s house in Montana where a group of geeks met up for an “Off the Grid” campout. What’s your favorite language? Leave a comment and maybe we’ll have you on a future show.

Mad Mojitos at the Ritz: talking tech with CEOs from B5 Media and SmugMug

Monday, September 25th, 2006

On weekends I like to walk down to the Half Moon Bay Ritz Carlton resort. It’s nice, as you’ll see (stick around for the bagpiper at the end, he comes down playing his music every Saturday an hour before sunset). Anyway, on a recent weekend Jeremy Wright, CEO and founder of B5 Media, a blogging network, came to visit me. While at the Ritz we met up with Don MacAskill, CEO of SmugMug, a popular photo-sharing service.

So why call this “Mad Mojitos?” Well, before we turned on the camera we had one of the Ritz’ famous Peach Mojitos. It’s a good way to get CEOs to loosen up a little bit and share more about what makes their businesses special.
