wow, this is a really cool app. I like their idea for a business model of keeping the service for free and charging for extra things like DVDs and HQ scrapbook prints.

Good stuff Mr. Scoble, keep the cool demos coming.

  2. Why video demos matter: Scrapblogging « Scobleizer - Tech Geek Blogger Says:

[…] can read 100 blogs about this. Or listen to 10 podcasts. You still won’t get what Scrapblog does until you either download it and try it yourself or watch a videodone by Carlos Garcia. Don’t miss the book at the end of the demo. It’s 10 minutes. Filed under: blogging @ 6:27 pm# […]

  3. Tim Says:

Hmmm…to be honest, I didn’t learn anything from that video that I couldn’t have learned from a few well chosen screenshots with some brief text describing the features (e.g. http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/, although that page could stand to have clearer screenshots).

Actually, I did learn two things:

    1. You do need to prepare for videoblogs, despite your “just do it!” claim. For example, the scrapbook slideshow/music demo had no music because the laptop wasn’t set up right, and the Flickr tab obviously wasn’t working.

    2. The new trend for super-shiny laptop screens *is*, as I suspected, really dumb - I could see a reflection of Carlos almost all the way through that video. I bet using that laptop is fun with non-diffuse lighting.

Also, as a long-standing application developer, it does amuse me that the state of ‘Web 2.0′ apps is still such that being able to select more than one object at a time is described as a ‘really cool feature’.

I also noticed the phrase ‘pretty unique’ too, but old-school app developers have been mis-using that for ages too :-).

  4. Scraphappy Says:

I’m not sure how this qualifies as scrapbooking. The majority of scrapbookers I know either already know how to do this, or have little interest in doing it. The major part of the joy of scrapbooking is the process of designing the scrapbook and seeing the finished product that you can actually hold and fee. Plus the social aspects of getting together with fellow scrapbookers on an afternoon or evening to work on your books. I would not define what you showed as scrapbooking but rather a mutimedia photo presentation. This will hardly either make a dent in the already crowded scrapbook ‘industry”.

  5. Robert Scoble Says:

    Scraphappy: it’s “scrapblogging” not “scrapbooking.”

But, someone who is into scrapbooking, but me into scrapblogging too. Why? Cause with blogging you can share with other people around the world.

  6. Baba Says:

This video demo was really well done.

The scrapblog webapp looks very well designed, and easy to use.

  7. Web Strategy by Jeremiah » ScobleVid: Scrapblog enables Rich Photo Sharing Experience for Anyone Says:

[…] Check out how Scoble interviewed Carlos Garcia the CEO of Scrapblog in this HiDef Video.  This web based flash app enables anyone to share and build unique experiences using ones photos.  Carlos’s blog sindicate they showed very well at Demo. I tried out Scrapblog a few weeks ago and it’s improved tremendously.  There’s an ability to import video, export to flickr, export RSS, and import flickr pictures. […]

  8. Christian Scholz Says:

Cool thing.. Now if this would be AJAX I’d see it as the new way of web page editing ;-)

  9. Torley Says:

This really looks wholesome and easy to get into. Thanx Baba for letting me know about this — hawtness! Nice to see you too, Christian. :) Travelin’ across the blogosphere… and of course this is on Robert Scoble’s holy ground! :D

What I really like in that demo video is the presence of pictures tilted at angles — too often, we’re used to seeing perfectly-aligned images level with the horizontal and vertical. Such a thing is an actual rarity in a real scrapbook. I lurve the part where the coffee cup is drag-’n'-dropped too.

Needless to say, I’m curious to document my Second Life memories on a Scrapblog, so I’ve entered my email addy and am anticipating giving it a spin. Looking very, *very* much forward.

  10. Robert French Says:

Robert, I enjoyed this video. The application looks very fun, seems powerful (well tricked out) and so simple to use. I can see a large audience for scrapblogging. The presentation made me go sign up on their site. I like it and can see many uses.

The book aspect reminds me of Blurb’s Booksmart, too. That’s a very nice addition.

Finally, your work here is even more engaging than before. The variety of videos I’m expecting, based upon your comments, will easily keep me coming back for more. Thanks.

[…] I was wondering around a craft store one day and came upon the “scrapbooking” section.  I could not believe how many people filled the isles picking out stickers and fancy paper to make their scrapbooks.  ” With Scrapblog, you can easily create stunning multimedia scrapbooks featuring your photos, videos, audio, and a bunch of creative elements”.  Seriously.  Scrapblog is really cool and easy to use.  There is a demo the CEO of scrapblog created here, and then they have another very quick and informative one on their website.  They both made me want to try out the service immediately even though I’m really not the scrapbooking type.
