  1. Automattic’s CEO, Toni Schneider, on ScobleShow « Scobleizer - Tech Geek Blogger Says:

[…] You might have heard of Wordpress or Akismet (Wordpress is the software/service that hosts my blog here, and Akismet is the service that blocks all sorts of comment spam). They are both produced by Automattic. Recently I sat down with Automattic’s CEO, Toni Schneider, for a 45:33 interview for ScobleShow. […]

    cool interview!

  3. ScobleShow « Toni’s Garage Says:

[…] Robert Scoble came by recently to interview me for the ScobleShow. We talk about WordPress, blogging, spam, Akismet, MySpace, mash ups, virtual companies, all kinds of good and geeky stuff. The original idea was for Robert to drop by for lunch. When he showed up with his video gear instead, I knew I was in trouble! Even though the interview was spontaneous and easy going, I definitely felt a little self-conscious having that big video camera pointed at me. Luckily Robert is not only very well informed, he’s also fun and easy to talk to, so the whole thing didn’t hurt at all. […]

  4. Parand Tony Darugar Says:

Robert, I was looking forward to seeing Toni’s interview, but I get the dreader “Quicktime does not have the required software to display…” error, meaning I get only audio, no video. I’m on windows, so a common platform.

Why not upload the videos to YouTube or at least encode them in flash so it just works?

  5. Robert Scoble Says:

YouTube takes control of the copyright and I’m not willing to do that.

I’m using a Mac and the easiest format to do is Quicktime. They work on all sorts of Windows boxes. Are you using the latest Quicktime?

I will upload in other formats eventually, though. Sorry for the troubles.

  6. The Schneider Interview at Holy Shmoly! Says:

[…] Robert Scoble talks to Toni Schneider, the CEO of Automattic in this video interview about WordPress.com, Automattic and lots of other stuff. I’ve only watched the first 10 minutes, Toni talks about some of the features of WordPress.com - paid features, making money, adverts, fighting splogs and more. […]

  7. Kris Tuttle Says:

I’m watching this on a generic WinXP machine and it’s working fine (audio+video).

  8. Jeremy Says:

Wow, that’s great. All Linux users are effectively banned from this interview. :(

  9. Robert Scoble Says:

Jeremy: sorry about that. What format would you like us to publish in? Ogg?

[…] Ein sehr nettes und interessantes Interview mit dem Chef von Automattic. Sehr sympathischer Mann. Hat eine gute Einstellung zum Profit mit Webseiten. Unbedingt anschauen. 17. Okt. 2006 Kategorie: kurz angebraten […]

  11. Jill Foster Says:

Toni came across as nervous at first but as the interview progressed, so did his sense of ease. It was effecitve and likeable — almost as good as ConvergeSouth banana pudding! FYI: The footage of you & Maryam (recent C.South interview for Living with Geeks project) captured too much of my booming voice & not enough of you/Myram’s comments. After watching your interview here, I’ll be more mindful of being extra quiet e.g. suppressing the ‘oh yes’ and ‘I get it’ comments).

  13. seriocomic.com Says:

Great interview. Firstly it was neat to see so many questions asked and answered about Wordpress.com that I have often wondered. Secondly the whole tone of the interview was very casual, yet on-topic.

I did have to open it on my Mac as my PC didn’t like it tho.

  14. Jeremy Says:

Robert, OGG would be great, as that’s supported out-of-the-box on most Linux systems.

However, MPEG is a more widely-supported and universal format at the moment, so it would probably be better to put up an MPEG version.

  15.   Video Interview with Automattic’s CEO, Toni Schneider by Blogging Pro Says:

[…] No, Matt Mullenweg is not really the CEO of Automattic, the company he helped founded. It is actually in the lap of Toni Schneider who was recently interviewed with PodTech. PodTech is built on top of Wordpress, a blogging and content management package from Automattic. Here we sit down with Toni Schneider, CEO of Automattic, to talk about a variety of things — from Om Malik to splogs and what Automattic is doing about that problem. […]

  16. David Chait Says:

If you’re having publishing problems, alternate formats would be:
    - mpeg4 (internally supported by quicktime)
    - h264 (ditto)
    - divx
    - xvid
    - x264

I’d think for podcasting, mp4 would be a preferred format (as there’s lots of decoders out there, QT or otherwise).

  29. My Crunchies Votes « Scobleizer — Tech geek blogger Says:

[…] 1. BEST TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION/ACHIEVEMENT: Twine. (Here’s a video I did with them). Although Google’s MyLocation feature on its new mobile maps are the one thing I appreciate most that came along this year. Funny, though, Amazon’s S3 service is probably having the biggest impact on the startups and it wasn’t on the list. 2. BEST BOOTSTRAPPED START-UP. Techmeme. 3. BEST NEW GADGET/DEVICE. iPhone although ever since Qik came into my life I’ve been using the Nokia N95 more. 4. BEST BUSINESS MODEL. Glam Media. Personally, why wasn’t socialmedia.com on this list? Actually, I would have put SmugMug on this list too, although where’s RockYou? They are making tons of money right now. 5. BEST DESIGN. Smugmug. (Here’s a video I did with them). 6. BEST ENTERPRISE START-UP. 37 Signals. If Atlassian or NewsGator were on this list I might have gone with them. 7. BEST CONSUMER START-UP. 23 and me. I didn’t like the choices here, but this is the most interesting of the ones presented. 8. BEST MOBILE START-UP. Twitter. (Here’s a video I did with them). How come BluePulse wasn’t on this list? Or Dopplr? 9. BEST INTERNATIONAL START-UP. Atlassian. (Here’s a video I did with them). 10. BEST USER-GENERATED CONTENT. Instructables. 11. BEST VIDEO SITE: Justin.tv. Personally, if Seesmic, Kyte, or Qik were on this list I would have voted for one of those three. (Seesmic was removed because Mike Arrington has invested in it). 12. BEST CLEAN TECH START-UP. Tesla Motors. 13. BEST USE OF VIRAL MARKETING. iLike. (Here’s a video I did with them). 14. BEST TIME SINK SITE. Kongregate. (Here’s a video I did with them). 15. MOST LIKELY TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. Kiva. 16. MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED. Wordpress. (Here’s a video I did with them). 17. BEST START-UP FOUNDER. Mark Zuckerberg. (I have a video with his sister, where she gives some interesting insights). 18. BEST START-UP CEO. Gina Bianchini. (Here’s a video I did with her). 19. BEST NEW START-UP OF 2007. Tumblr. I actually didn’t like any of these choices, but Tumblr is the one that caught my eye the most. 20. BEST OVERALL. Facebook. I actually like Twitter more, but I can just hear Christopher Coulter having fun with me if I chose it, so I took the bigger Facebook. […]
