Cisco makes videoconferencing cool with new telepresence systems
Cisco yesterday announced the TelePresence 3000 but last week Robert Scoble got to attend a demo of the system with his camera. This is a new kind of videoconferencing room, one where you feel you’re actually in the same room with the remote participants. It’s the kind of thing you’ve got to experience to understand.

[…] By the way, check out the Scobleshow vid that Steve mentions, but doesn’t link to. It’s quite an eye-opener. […]

[…] Cisco just announced the TelePresence 3000. This is a new kind of videoconferencing room, one where you feel you’re actually in the same room with the remote participants. Check out the video at Podtech from the Scobleshow. I would recommend downloading the file and then watching. If you want to know all the geeky stuff watch the whole thing. To get an idea of what it is all about just check out a few minutes or go to Cisco’s web page on the product. Today it costs $300,000. In 5 years maybe half that. 10 Years from now? Who knows? The guy in the Cisco video says networking technology doubles in speed and drops in price every 12 months. He goes on to say in 5 years this could be $10,000. Not sure that is quite a true statement for this product. I don’t think you will be able to pick up 3 - 65″ 1080P Plasma displays and 3 high definition cameras for less than $10,000. Looks like the first real way to cut business travel. The Airlines should be running scared. […]

did you see that cisco paid promotional fees and the telepresence system was featured in an episode of Vanished on FOX.

Finally a wholistic approach to the video conferencing environment. After all, it is about the participants feeling confident in using the technology. We have been struggling with the ease of use for our people for quite some time!!!

[…] It’s fun to watch all of the gadgets on 24. On tonight’s episode there was a scene that featured a video conference with three large flat-screen TV’s. This is an actual product called Cisco TelePresence. Check out this ScobleShow episode from last fall for more details. Any guesses on how much Cisco paid Fox for this product placement? […]

[…] Well now maybe I have seen a glimpse of the future for our industry after watching this video from Robert on the new Tele-Presence system from Cisco. I can certainly see corporate companies using this to interview candidates and it certainly will make it easier to get a panel interview together. For me I just hope it gets us back to interviewing candidates face to face again!! […]
