The end result: more *happy* people online and developing software for me, a reduction in ongoing employee costs and capital equipment that could be depreciated over a period of time thus reducing the bottom line. Any employer with more than a vaccuum between their ears would understand this concept. My team talk with with peers outside of our business about how their toolkit at work is far superior than what they would have bought for themselves - and this makes them proud to work for us. It just makes sense.
