A look into startup SOASTA, automated web testing tool maker
Ken Gardner, founder and executive chairman of SOASTA, explains what’s behind his new startup which builds visual tools to automate web testing. Ken’s an interesting guy, believes that enterprise software needs a user interface that looks more like Apple’s Garage Band and less like SAP’s interface. One thing that caught my eye? He gives me a tour and every employee had a 30-inch Apple monitor along with both a MacPro and a MacBookPro (and every employee has another 30-inch monitor at home). I don’t know if I can say I beat Ken to the line, but 2 years ago I gave my team of 20 dual 19″ flat screens on their desks as well as a laptop, broadband at home and a mobile for the same reason instead of providing over the top pay rises.
The end result: more *happy* people online and developing software for me, a reduction in ongoing employee costs and capital equipment that could be depreciated over a period of time thus reducing the bottom line.
Any employer with more than a vaccuum between their ears would understand this concept.
My team talk with with peers outside of our business about how their toolkit at work is far superior than what they would have bought for themselves - and this makes them proud to work for us.
It just makes sense.
