Inside the first Wiki company, SocialText
I spend almost an hour with Ross Mayfield, founder of SocialText, which is the first Wiki company. Ross is an interesting guy who’s been at the center of a bunch of trends, including Web 2.0, blogging, social media, and boom and bust cycles. We hear what SocialText is up to, and what Ross is seeing from his office in downtown Palo Alto.

[…] I started out looking for a Content Management System (CMS) to move the websites I manage to– in case “the bus gets me tomorrow” and ended up opening up more doors than I knew existed! But the journey was fun and I am excited about all the possibilities! The main advantage of a CMS is that the website content can be edited and added to by anyone with permission and eliminates the need for the webmaster (me ) to have to make small changes. Good for you and me! As I found out, there are many CMS and as many ways to use them. The most popular ones are Open Source and include the following: CMS http://plone.org/ http://www.joomla.org/ http://drupal.org/ http://www.opensourcecms.com/ WIKKI Another popular website format is the Wikki and is a popular way for companies to share information within teams and workgroups. Social Text is a good example and you can listen to a podcast from the creator and Robert Scoble (of Microsoft blogging fame and now a member of www.podtech.com http://scobleizer.com) to see how it can be used. http://www.podtech.net/scobleshow/technology/1255/inside-the-first-wiki-company-socialtext […]
