"Marketing is almost the antithesis of geekiness."

Some of the best marketers I know are "geeks" or at least I think they are "geeks" (maybe they would deny the marketing though) -- Scoble and Pirillo come to mind.

Or maybe they aren't geeks? What is a geek?

Marketing is almost the antithesis of geekiness. Sales gets the top score. :-)

It's interesting, though that marketing and being a techie in all it's forms suffer from the same image problem. No-one other than people doing a similar job understands what you do, so assumes you don't do very much at all.

Girls who are Geeks - it's like all my Christmas at once.

Then again my wife has just discovered gaming through the Wii - first steps to Geekiness? Perhaps not, but it's a start at least :)

"Accused" of being a marketer?

Like that is a bad thing?

Or somehow marketing is the antithesis of geekiness?

Marketers can be geeks too!
