Visiting “Birthplace of Silicon Valley:” HP Garage during BarCampBlock
I’ve lived in Silicon Valley most of my life and, while I’ve been to the HP Garage several times, I’ve never gotten to actually visit it. HP was gracious enough to open the garage for me and a few of my friends who have added me as a Facebook friend and we visit the garage where Anna Mancini, HP’s Corporate Archivist, gives us a talk about the role this little garage played in the tech industry’s development.

Cool video! (in an uber geeky kind of way) I grew up with my dad’s ham radio gear. All of his radios glow. A lot of the stuff in the garage reminds me of going to “hamfests” with all those variable capacitors, air core inductors, tubes, and hand drawn schematics. Fun!
I’ll remember the toaster oven surface-mount component technique.

[…] We were on vacation for a couple of weeks in the San Francisco bay area, and I, along with ~10 others, got courtesy of HP and led by HP’s Archivist Anna Mancini, a private tour during BarCampBlock of the Birthplace of Silicon Valley at the garage where Hewlett and Packard started HP in Palo Alto. The whole event was captured on video by Podtech and Robert Scoble. Another view by bub.blicio.us. […]
