Plaxo to ship online identity aggregator based on microformats
Here, Joseph Smarr, Plaxo’s architect, and John McCrea, VP of marketing, introduce me to Plaxo’s new offices, talk about a new feature, to be released on Wednesday, which is an “online identity aggregator,” and explain how it works and why you’ll want to try it out.

Joseph Smarr of Plaxo can also be seen reprising his OSCON talk, “High-performance JavaScript: Why Everything You’ve Been Taught Is Wrong”, on YUI Theater: http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=1041101. In a sense, this is a counterpoint to Robert’s video, showing the machinations behind the scenes and how the Plaxo engineering team is differentiating through performance innovation to help drive their product innovation.

I just don’t want nefarious folks knowing my contact info (addy, phone, email). Otherwise, I really don’t care. Clearly folks are willing to give up some of the privacy constraints of Facebook. Look at myspace. Look at blogs. In fact, Plaxo launched recently to consolidate your social networking life (the new buzz word is “life stream”) It has variable settings in terms of privacy. There is no reason why Facebook can’t do the same… And my guess is that things will move in that direction. If I want to live my life outloud, digitally and otherwise, why can’t I??? […]

Isn’t anyone else concerned about Plaxo’s previous track record of spamming friends with requests to join also, as soon as you let Plaxo loose with your contact book to sync them.
What assurances are there they won’t do this on a much greater scale, whilst being in touch with much more of your valuable data?
